Mixed up test results

Case Studies » Medical Injuries

A man had a number of existing medical conditions which meant that he had to have regular checks. He had a routine test done, and was told that he had to be admitted to hospital immediately as the result of the test showed that he was in danger of serious illness. After spending 2 days in hospital, it was discovered that the original test results had been mixed up with a different patient, that there was nothing wrong with him and he should not have been admitted. The man successfully recovered compensation for the unnecessary extra tests done in hospital, for stress, inconvenience and for the amount of time provided by his family in visiting him and looking after him when he returned home and whilst he recovered from the shock.
